Who the fuck is Jeremy Evans? The 2012 NBA Dunk Contest Champion is who he is. I thought you had to actually play in the NBA to participate in the contest, OH WAIT! Evans is putting up a beastly 1.7 ppg and 1.2 rpg in a whopping 6 minutes a game for the Jazz. And take a look at the rest of the dudes who competed in the contest this year: Chase Chris Budinger, Derrick Williams, and Paul George. Holy shit, thats a must see contest right there, NAWT. Two scrubs, a rookie, and a small forward with a little upside, thats what the NBA gives us for the must see Dunk Contest. Pathetic. The thing that really drove home how shitty the NBA dunk contest has become, was when I saw the highlights from this years college dunk contest. Those guys threw down some real jams, they brought some real creativity, none of this props bullshit and dressing up in costumes, but some real fuckin rim rattlin jams. The kid who won it was a 5'10 NAIA guard, called James Justice and, you could see he wanted to be there, he put his heart and soul into that shit. On that final dunk dude leaped outta the building and almost hit his head on the fuckin rim. Honestly, the Dunk Contest used to be All Star Weekends biggest attraction, the main draw, the thing to see. The contest used to bring out the best in the competitors, and the players took defeat personally. I mean look at the battle in '88 between 'Nique and Jordan, MJ had waited three years to get his revenge on Wilkins for '85. Or look at Dr. J recreating his free throw line dunk in '84 in Denver at age 34. Don't forget Vince Carter in 2000, with the hands down best contest performance ever. I mean Kenny Smith almost shat himself after Carter's first dunk, the man had the entire arena in his palm that night. That's what the contest should be like every year, or at least every other fuckin year. Instead we've been stuck with lackluster contest after contest, with half the players just straight up embarrassing themselves. I mean imagine if we saw a field at next years dunk contest of Durant, DWade, John Wall, and Josh Smith. That would be some worth while shit. But for now, someone somehow please save the NBA Dunk Contest. Im Begging You.
A matchup that features two battle tested, well coached teams should not be short on excitement. OSU led by sophomore big man Jared Sullinger, have had arguably the toughest road to New Orleans having overcome Gonzaga, a tough Cincinnati team, and a close call with Syracuse to get here. On the court though their play has been boosted by the assertiveness of defensive stalwart Aaron Craft on the offensive end, and Craft played possibly his best game in a Buckeye uniform when he went for 17 points and 10 dimes against Gonzaga. Craft's recent play has helped offset the prolonged shooting slump of senior William Buford, and they have also gotten help from lefty combo DeShaun Thomas who can really fill it up in a hurry. The Jayhawks on the other hand are a #2 seed, that feature a roster bare of any High School All Americans, something that is rarely seen, but they do have quite possibly college hoops best player. After sitting behind the Morris twins last season, Thomas Robinson has had a monster season for Bill Self and although he may not be as talented as Anthony Davis there's no denying that he is more valuable to his team. Robinsons inside presence coupled with Tyshawn Taylor's erratic yet tantalizing play at the point, and Elijah Johnsons emergence as a third option have propelled the Jayhawks to where they are. Throw in 7 footer, Jeff Withey, who creates problems by simply just standing there and the Jayhawks are tough to beat. However, I see the sophomore Buckeye trio of Sullinger, Craft, and Thomas being too much for Jayhawks to handle. Buckeyes in a close one.
Blue vs Red, Calipari vs Pitino, David vs Goliath. This matchup comes as a surprise to everyone as Louisville have ridden their Big East Tournament Championship run all the way to the Final Four, I bet good ole Rick didn't even see this coming. For this game to be even close, Louisville are gonna have to play their fuckin socks off and hope that Kentucky don't show up for the first half. One thing Louisville does have going for them is Pitino's tournament experience and they do run deeper than the Wildcats. Russ Smith will need to replicate his late game heroics from against Florida, and Gorgui Dieng is going to have to find some way to slow Anthony Davis down, whether it be legal or not is a different issue all together. With all that said, this Kentucky team is far and away Cailpari's best team yet, and they not only dominate on offense but on defense too where Davis, and Kidd-Gilchrist anchor a unit that was tenth in the country in defensive efficiency. I see the Wildcats being too much for Louisville to handle with all their weapons on offense, and I also see a big game from Terrence Jones. The lefty sophomore has been playing better of late and he should look to capitalize on a likely matchup with Kyle Kuric. Wildcats by 15.
Ricky Williams, one of the realest dudes to ever play the game. Realized half way through his career that football wasn't his main priority, took time off, thought about life and came back to the game at peace with himself. I will never forget his early years with the Dolphins when he was straight up unstoppable, and my little brother rocking his jersey.
